Terran Gates

President, Owner, Certified Prosthetist Orthotist, and Exercise Physiologist

I began my career in Prosthetics and Orthotics back in 2010 shadowing in a local clinic. I immediately fell in love with the idea that I could have a career that balanced working with my hands and working for people. There was something else that took me a while to identify that simply made me love working with this patient population. From that point, I made the decision to follow this curiosity and began the 8-year journey to becoming certified. I completed my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and Mathematics at University of Arkansas Fayetteville (Woo Pig!) and went on to complete my Masters in Prosthetics and Orthotics at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. I completed a dual residency and six board exams to earn my American Board Certification in both Orthotics and Prosthetics. I spent the next six years at a locally owned prosthetics and orthotics company hungry for knowledge and expanding my skill set. Through the fortune of timing and wonderful teachers, I quickly developed a skill for difficult presentations and transfemoral prosthetics. I love a good challenge to come up with a unique design! During this time, there was a shift in the field to mass production, digital workflow, and focus on quantity over quality, much like other areas of healthcare. This seemed to go more and more against the reason I got into the field and limit the relationships I develop with all my patients. That’s when I decided it was time to open my own clinic. One that is focused on quality, handcrafted prosthetics and orthotics built around the unique individual and centered around getting to know each person. Without spending the time to listen to a person’s needs, you can’t hope to meet all their goals. At Gates Prosthetics + Mobility Clinic, I control the quality I sign my name to!

In my transition, I saw another need that shaped my clinic. Too many of my patients struggled with living a healthier lifestyle, even though they were motivated to make changes. Meeting the recommended exercise amounts is difficult for everyone; adding a mobility impairment to this adds a whole other level of challenge. I found myself studying adaptive training textbooks and offering advice to the people I worked with. I decided to pursue a certification in Exercise Physiology with specialization in Inclusive Fitness. I wanted to be able to provide the wholistic approach that involved both the tool to do the work and the plan to get you there. This journey brought me to the answer of what I love most about my patients and being part of their process. And that’s seeing the GRIT that they bring to the table. Being part of this very personal journey from what is often a low point in their life, watching them make the courageous decision to go for it, and helping with the work to get to their goals! That’s why I do what I do! And that’s why I opened Gates Prosthetics + Mobility Clinic!

Easton Reese, Prosthetic & Orthotic Resident, MPO

I started out during my undergraduate shadowing at an O&P clinic in 2016. I quickly fell in love with the fabrication lab as it allowed me to work with my hands alongside some great people.

I completed my undergraduate in biomedical engineering at the University of Arkansas. Upon completion of my undergraduate degree I worked as a technician for two years. I then started studying for my masters at UT Southwestern and graduated in December of 2022.

Today, I am working my residency here at Gates Prosthetic and Mobility Clinic where I have been able to further develop my expertise. Upon completion of my residency I will be finishing school with board exams to become board certified.

I have a huge heart to see patients succeed and I love to be a part of the rehabilitation process. I love watching people thrive and pursue their passions. It is important to me to make every service I provide excellent. I want patients to have a positive experience from when they walk in the door to when they leave with a new device.

Phil Henry,

MSPO & CPO

I began my career by earning my bachelors degree in Health and Human Performance at Fort Hays State University. I then began studying for my masters and graduated with a Masters of Science in Prosthetics from Hartford University.

I then became an ABC certified prosthetist and orthotist equipped to manage comprehensive prosthetic and orthotic patient care. I have a combined 15 years of experience in pediatric and geriatric care.

I was introduced to the Gates family and instantly fell in love with the idea of working with them because of their passion for patient care. Working in the corporate realm, I found that I did not agree with the way that patient care was practiced and decided to take my talents to the Gates team.

Katrina Pumphrey, Patient Experience Coordinator

Arkansas born, lover of nature and veggies!

Taking care of the office needs at Gates has been rewarding as I witness the staff give each patient personalized care and support that goes beyond the office visit. Working with project leaders to help generate revenue for those who are in financial need, surpasses the commitment to remove all barriers for our patients. It brings me great joy to be able to be a part of the team!

Beth Wheeler, Patient Experience Coordinator

A Harrison native with a clinical background in behavioral health.

Becoming a member of the Gates team has not only deepened my understanding of healthcare, but has also been a refreshing reminder that quality care is still an option for patients. I'm happy to be part of this company knowing our staff, practitioners and otherwise, go above and beyond to provide patients with nothing less than the best.

Susie Fontenot , Patient Experience Coordinator

I have worked in healthcare for over 10 years and during that time I acquired an eagerness to help people.

When I got the opportunity to become a part of the Gates Prosthetics and Mobility Clinic Team I immediately knew I would be joining a team that shares that eagerness. There is a lot to learn about the orthotic and prosthetic field and I am looking forward to not only expanding my knowledge but also being a part of a compassionate team that goes above and beyond for our patients. I am excited to see where this journey with the Gates Team takes me!

Heather Pfeil, Director of Billing

Caring for O&P patients has been my passion for 15 years.

Gates Clinic allows me to develop relationships with the patients and continue my personal growth in the industry. I've known Terran for several years and have always admired her quality of work and craftsmanship of prosthetic devices. She also has a deep personal commitment to each of her patients. I wanted to be a part of something very special and I believe Gates Clinic is it.  We want to create a place where patients can feel safe and comfortable and have their prosthetic and orthotic needs met.

Elizabeth Dees, Director of Admin

Before working in the O&P field I had worked in other healthcare settings and developed a passion for ensuring people receive the care they deserve.

When I got the opportunity to work alongside Terran I knew that I would be a part of a team that strives to provide quality care. My primary goal as Director of Admin is to ensure that every single patient that walks through the door feels heard and knows that we are going to do everything in our power to help them achieve their goals. At Gates Prosthetics and Mobility Clinic I get to play a small role in someone’s personal journey and it’s a role I am honored to have!
